I have said it on here, on my podcast, and IRL: I believe in “Community Over Competition.” Here’s what that means to me:
1) I love being able to follow, connect with, and collaborate with other bloggers and content creators.
2) I don’t look at other women in the creative space as threats to my work. We are all creating unique content that we can all enjoy.
But, lately I realized the “community” part of my favorite mantra could be more inclusive. I’ve seen various posts on social media that have encouraged me to #DiversifyMyFeed. I noticed I wasn’t following many WOC in my lifestyle niche or WOC bloggers; I needed to change that.
Through hashtags and tagged posts, I discovered some WOC creators that caught my eye. I enjoyed their content, aesthetics, and personalities. I followed them, and I would encourage you to check them out too. It’s important to expand your community, and it’s important to diversify the media you take in.
Their Instagram handles read left to right alongside the photos. If you would like to spread the message too, the square graphics are optimized for Instagram: screenshot and share away!
Of course, this isn’t the only thing we can do to diversify our communities, but it’s a good first step.
How are you diversifying your community? Who do you love to follow? I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments or on Instagram. Let’s chat!
