“Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak.”- Rachel Zoe
I began my style journey when I realized there was a disconnect between who I was and the style I presented. I felt like I wasn’t being “me.”
In order to find myself through style, I tried a lot of different things out. In fact, I am still testing out new trends and identifying what is authentic to me. It has given me a better idea of what clothing I like and what my *aesthetic* is.
If you want to define your style, here are five things that I would recommend doing:
Conduct a Closet Inventory. Take a look at the clothes you currently have and evaluate what you like and don’t like. Also, think realistically about how your current closet matches up with your lifestyle. Depending on your job, you may need more dressy clothes than casual items. Get rid of the clothes that are no longer serving you.
Look for Inspiration. If you are not sure exactly what you like, browsing helps! Look at Pinterest and style bloggers for outfit ideas. You can even window shop at the mall. If you see a trend you like, try it out. Style is fun to experiment with.
Try Personal Styling. Another opinion may open your eyes to brands and styles that you never even considered. You could even find some of your new favorite items through personal styling. I use Qatch; it’s a styling via text service. Feel free to use code “Megan” and my link to try it for free.
Write it Down. Think about how you would actually describe your style. What adjectives would you use? What is your personal style mission statement? Don’t be afraid to actually write it out. If you are a more visual person, laying out mood boards can help too. Mood boards are also great for determining a color palette.
Be Open to Evolution. Let’s face it, Vogue looks a lot different than it did five years ago. Fashion changes, trends change, and your style may change too. But, it’s a fun journey. Don’t just limit yourself to one “glow-up.”
