I officially graduated with my bachelor’s degree from UW-Green Bay! It took 4-years and a bottomless cup of coffee to do it, but I made it.

When I first started my college education, I was not sure where it would take me. I knew that I enjoyed the communication field, but I did not know much else. To get started, I decided to go to a 2-year university and pursue my associate’s degree. I liked the idea of smaller classroom sizes, and I wanted an affordable option.

Looking back, attending UW-Waukesha was one of the best decisions I made. The university became a second home to me. I ended up working on campus in the main office and the tutoring center. I got involved in student government. I even became the Milwaukee Bucks brand ambassador on the UW-Waukesha campus. While I did not live on campus, it almost felt like I did. And, the connections I made there feel like family.

You may be wondering how I ended up graduating from UW-Green Bay then? Well, after completing my associate’s degree, I was able to transfer into a 4-year university. I knew that I wanted to continue my education, so I made the choice to attend UW-Green Bay.

There were a few reasons why I made this decision. First, they have a great communication program, and I knew a few people that could vouch for it. Second, I am from Green Bay, so I thought it would be nice to return home. Also, when I thought about my future and where I saw myself, I saw living and working in Green Bay as a good possibility.

This decision was also a pretty good one if I do say so myself. I think the biggest highlight was getting involved with UW-Green Bay’s Public Relations Student Society of America Chapter. It offered great networking opportunities, and it helped me to get more involved in the communication program. I got to know more students, and I got to know my professors better. As a transfer student, it can be tricky to navigate a new campus. Getting involved definitely helps!

I truly believe that your college experience is what you make it. You can choose to be involved or not. You can choose where you go to some extent. You can also choose who you surround yourself with. Being involved, going to UW-Waukesha as well as UW-Green Bay, and connecting with the people I did is what made my college experience. I wouldn’t change a single thing about it.
