Becoming “That Girl”

Becoming “That Girl”

“That Girl” wakes up early, works out, eats healthy, has an organized schedule, is productive, and lives aesthetically. Basically, she’s doing the things that we all strive to do. When I think of “That Girl,” I think of someone that has intention, motivation, and confidence.

The only issue “That Girl” has is the fact that she’s not real. She’s simply an idea that was popularized on TikTok. In case you’re not familiar with the trend, here’s a Pinterest board that sums up who she is.

While you can argue that the “That Girl” trend is idealistic, I believe the idea of “That Girl” can provide a lot of inspiration for enhancing our day-to-day routines.

According to “That Girl” content, here are a few positive and actionable things that we can all do:

  • Set goals and have a plan. Determine what you want and what you need to get there. I like to do this in the short-term and long-term. Each day I try to create priorities and have a to-do list that aligns with that. Yearly, I create a top three to five goals that I work towards.
  • Make time for movement. Move your body in a way that feels good to you. For example, you could find movement by going for a walk or following along with a yoga YouTube video.
  • Drink more water. Seriously, this is a basic yet very important bullet point. Feel free to sip while you read the rest of this blog post.
  • Dress in what makes you feel good. Whether it’s athleisure or a blazer, wear something that you feel confident in.
  • Try journaling, meditation, or listing gratitudes. Find time in your day to just focus on yourself and your mind.
  • Challenge yourself to wake up earlier. Even waking up 15-30 minutes earlier than you usually do can have a huge impact on how you start your day. This extra time allows you to work movement or journaling into your schedule.
  • Create a skincare routine. Personally, I view my skincare as a daily act of self-care. It’s something that I always make the time for, and I enjoy the calm it brings me.

2 Years of Blogging & Finding My Voice

2 Years of Blogging & Finding My Voice

This past week, MeganRoshak.com turned two!

First, I want to thank you for reading this blog and keeping up with my content. I appreciate having this creative space that allows me to connect with others from all over! As this blog has grown, it has become something more than just a spot for me to type; it has become a community. I am glad that you are a part of it!

Next, I feel like I have to beg the cliche question: has it really been two years already? It doesn’t feel like that long ago that I purchased my domain and started writing weekly. It has become so integrated into my routine, and I am very happy that it has. Creating content on this blog keeps me in the habit of writing, which I adore doing.

Throughout two years of editing the website and publishing posts, I’ve learned a few things. I would say the biggest journey and lesson was finding my voice. And, what I mean by that is my writing voice. It took quite a bit of time and drafting before I truly understood my style. I’d say that blogging helped me to learn more about who I am, what I value, and how I communicate that.

For example, when I look at recent blog posts compared to blog posts from this time a year ago, I can see a difference in my comfortability to show up authentically. It’s not that I was sharing a false version of reality a year ago, but I don’t think that I was as confident in my voice. A year ago, I second-guessed myself way more than I do now.

So what changed? Well, I think time and practice had a lot to do with it. Continuously writing and creating helped me to get more comfortable with showing up in this online space. With time, I’ve allowed more breathing room in my writing process. I brainstorm, I write, I edit, and I give myself time to work with the words that I type rather than being super quick to publish. Of course, it’s good to have some structure and deadlines, but allowing some fluidity in your work and life can be good too.

In my second year of blogging, I got into even more of a groove with things than in year one. I’m looking forward to another year of creating and learning.

Cheers to the beginning of year three!

Lessons I’ve Learned from Working in Radio

Lessons I’ve Learned from Working in Radio

Happy National Radio Day! In honor of the holiday, I wanted to share a few lessons that I’ve learned from working in the industry.

For some background, I’ve been working in radio for about two years now! In the summer of 2019, I was an intern at my local radio station. In the fall of 2019, I began working for the station as an on-air announcer. Then in the winter of 2019, I fully transitioned into a producer role.

In each role I’ve had, I’ve been able to sharpen my communication and technical skills. I believe the lessons I’ve learned on-air have helped me grow in my radio job and my day-to-day life.

Here’s what I’ve learned from working in radio:

Forming relationships is key. On the first day of my internship in radio, I was told, “It’s not what you know. It’s who you know.” Getting to know others that worked at the station and learning from them allowed me to get hired. If you want people or a company to invest in you, you have to invest in them.

You must prioritize tasks effectively and efficiently. I learned this lesson when I began producing a live show. As you may imagine, producers handle a lot of moving parts. If tasks are not done correctly or on time during a show, the whole thing could go off the air. This is why prioritization is so vital. You have to understand what’s urgent and what can wait.

Anything can happen. As in life, anything can happen on-air. Technology can be fickle, and so can people. When I’m producing a show, and something goes wrong, I try to simply evaluate and adjust. I have learned to accept the fact that anything can happen (even if it’s a bit disorientating).

There are endless paths to the same result. The way that I run a show and the way that others run a show is different. Yet, to a listener, the on-air product sounds the same. There are various paths to the same result, so do what makes the most sense to you!

Summer Bucket List

Summer Bucket List

Summer is what you make of it, so I decided to jump on the summer bucket list trend. I feel like it will help me be more intentional and get the most out of my days off. There’s no reason to say “I’m bored” when there is so much to enjoy during the summer months!

Here are some items from my personal list and ideas for your summer bucket list:

Have an outdoor picnic. Make that dreamy picnic scene on Pinterest and in your Instagram feed a reality! Text your group chat and plan a lunch or dinner to have outdoors. I plan on checking this item off of my summer bucket list next week (as long as the weather lets me)!

Attend your local farmers market. I swear I can smell the fresh fruits, veggies, and flowers when I think about it. Farmers markets are such a treat to go to and shop at.

Go on your very own Tour de Coffee. In case you have no idea what I’m talking about, I’ll explain. A Tour de Coffee is essentially a cafe crawl (instead of a bar crawl), but you create your own route. The rules are as follows: you have to stop at three coffee shops, you have to order a drink and food item from each shop, and you can’t take a bathroom break.

I first saw @girlmeetsnewyorkcity do this, and I thought it looked like a fun time. My friend Ashley and I ended up on our own tour last summer, and we vlogged it! You can check out our experience here. I would definitely suggest setting aside a day for this.

Read at least one book that empowers you. Simply put, it feels good to read something that makes you feel good or validated. A couple of books that I loved recently were Women Don’t Owe You Pretty and The Book of Moods. The next book I plan on reading is Kirstie Taylor’s What I Wish I Knew About Love.

Cook or bake something new. It feels so satisfying to create something from scratch, and it’s so much tastier. Lately, I’ve been challenging myself to experiment with ingredients like wild mushrooms, chickpeas, and tofu!

Enjoy a spa night in. Make self-care a priority and gift yourself time to relax. For my at-home spa nights, I love to pick up bath bombs, a face mask, and some of my favorite snacks. Sometimes I’ll even rent a movie to enjoy.

Commit to a journaling challenge. You can find tons of journaling prompts and 30-day challenges on Pinterest. Sometimes I prefer a quote or question to respond to while journaling rather than just freestyling. Also, I think prompts are really helpful if you are new to journaling.

Buy yourself flowers. Here’s the perfect excuse to do something nice for yourself and support your local florist.

Go on a day trip (big or small). Plan a little adventure for yourself and maybe even take a few friends along! You could visit a new hiking trail, coffee shop, or beach that’s outside of your city. Whether it’s 30 minutes away or a few hours away from home, enjoy the mini getaway!

Celebrating One Year of Blogging

Celebrating One Year of Blogging

It’s official. I have owned MeganRoshak.com for exactly one year! It’s cliche, but time really does fly when you are having fun.

First, I want to thank you for making this a great year! I appreciate every reader and email subscriber of the blog. We have created not only an amazing community here but also on Instagram.

Building connections was actually one of the reasons why I started blogging. I wanted to connect with others who had similar passions and interests. I appreciate all of the amazing ladies that I have been able to chat with because of blogging.

My love of writing also motivated me to begin blogging. When I was younger, I thought maybe I’d be a novelist. While I now desire a day job in marketing or communications, I still enjoy getting creative with my words.

Over this past year, I have had the opportunity to collaborate with various brands and complete a couple freelance projects. I could not have imagined the opportunities that have come because of blogging, but I am extremely grateful for them.

I am excited to continue to grow alongside MeganRoshak.com, and I am excited to share the journey with you.

Here’s to one year!
